There is plenty to see and do. The Lodge is an ideal base to explore Tongariro National Park. It is New Zealand’s oldest national park and New Zealanders are proud of its World Heritage status. The park includes the volcanoes Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu. There are many walking tracks, including the internationally acclaimed Tongariro Crossing, the country’s most popular one-day walk.
The Lodge is an easy 35 minutes drive from the Whakapapa ski field on Mt Ruapehu. Turangi’s 18-hole golf course is within 2 minutes drive. Further afield are the hot thermal pools at Tokaanu (5 minutes by car) and Taupo’s restaurants, bars and shopping.
Turangi is less than four hours drive from either Wellington or Auckland and 40 minutes drive from Taupo.
